BC Building Code Requirements

The 2012 BC Building Code introduced section 9.36 – Energy Efficiency on December 19, 2014. All permits submitted should meet the new code requirements of section 9.36 – Energy Efficiency.

These requirements focus primarily on the building envelope and higher insulation standards and air tightness strategies.

The envelope requires effective thermal insulation values which can be determined by a prescriptive path, or a performance path as it is described in section 9.36.5. The performance path permits flexibility to the designer to assume any code conforming assembly.

A CEA will be responsible for the performance path calculation and submit his findings to the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
