Julio Reynel-Gracia, P.Eng., Building Envelope Engineer
Julio Reynel-Gracia is the president of JRG Building Engineering, Inc. He is a Building Envelope Professional Engineer specializing in the building envelope and energy efficiency for Part 9 buildings and small structures. Julio works closely with residential home builders on energy efficiency as it pertains to the Building Code and also on building envelope design and building assemblies.
Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Julio is a proud graduate of Concordia University with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Recruited by Owens Corning Canada in September 2008, Julio took a role as the Western Canadian Technical Manager based out of Alberta, where he resided for 6 years. Now living in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, Julio operates an engineering and building envelope consulting firm whose primary focus is to work with residential builders on envelope design and deciphering the contents of building code.
Julio believes in living with happiness. He consistently surrounds himself with people whose ideas broaden his own.
Kenneth Chan, EIT, CPHD
Kenneth brings to JRG engineering and project management experience from various industries, including the resource sector, equipment manufacturing, municipal infrastructure, industrial construction, and renewable energy. In his role at JRG, he enjoys being out on site to collaborate with Builders to empower them to construct better performing buildings.
Always interested in being the first to know all things new and innovative in the building industry, Kenneth also sits on the Homebuilders Association Vancouver (HAVAN) Technical Committee.
Away from the office, Kenneth is usually playing with his toddler son and baby daughter at the park while sipping a local Kitsilano coffee with his wife. A nature enthusiast, Kenneth hikes, snowshoes, skis, and snowboards. He also cheers for the Vancouver Canucks.
Fred DeBarros, M.A.Sc.
Born and raised in Brazil, Fred de Barros has a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Master of Science in Structural Engineering with an emphasis in reinforced concrete at the Federal University of Para. In Canada, he graduated with distinction in Master of Applied Science in Building Engineering/Science. His research focused on whole building energy simulation, natural ventilation and airflow simulation.
Working at JRG Building Engineering since January 2018, he covers both building envelope engineering and building energy efficiency. He is the Certified Energy Advisor (CEA) responsible for the energy related demand in the company, which includes energy modelling, airtightness testing and energy analysis.
Abhishek Sharma, EIT, M.A.Sc.
Abhishek Sharma is a Building Envelope Engineer at JRG Building Engineering. He is predominantly involved in detailing and designing Part 9 buildings and could be found on job sites while conducting building envelope and spray foam field reviews.
He completed his M.A.Sc. from University of Victoria specializing in Building Science and is proficient in using hydrothermal modelling tools. He has a keen interest in energy efficient buildings and sustainable development and since joining JRG Building Engineering has continuously upgraded his technical knowledge and skill set.
Apart from working, Abhishek could be found volunteering for BC SPCA, trying out new cuisines and going on impromptu road trips. A true Ellen DeGeneres fan, Abhishek believes in being kind to everyone!
Stephen Guo, P.Eng., Structural Engineer
Stephen Guo is a structural engineer at JRG Structural Consultants Ltd. He has been involved in the structural design of major single-family residential to multi-unit residential and commercial projects.
He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Structural Focus) from the University of British Columbia and holds an M.Eng degree in Construction Management Focus. His theoretical and practical background of construction management adds value beyond structural engineering consultation. He is particularly valuable for the design of local residential and commercial structures.
His attention to detail, completeness in design, and cooperative management skills enable his projects to be successful. During the design stage, he always incorporates cost-effective solutions that can make proposed engineering decisions easier for contractors to build.
Doug Martin joined the JRG Building Engineering team in 2018. Doug began his career in the inspection industry as a Technical Field Inspector for a structural engineering firm. From there, he further expanded his inspection skills by becoming a Certified Home Inspector and through his experiences there developed a specialized interest in residential energy efficiency.
Doug has spent the last 17 years in the Lower Mainland advising architects, new home builders, renovators, and homeowners as a Certified Energy Advisor with Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Office of Energy Efficiency. He is licensed with NRCan to provide their EnerGuide for Houses (EGH), EnerGuide for New Houses (EGNH), and EnerGuide for Mult-Unit Residential Buildings (MURB) evaluations, modelling, reports, and air-leakage testing. He has extensive experience in providing energy efficiency building code plan reviews, modelling, and compliance reports along with building envelope air leakage testing. He finds satisfaction in helping to improve our environment through helping homeowners reduce their energy consumption and making their home most comfortable to live in.
Doug enjoys playing the piano and music composition in his spare time. He has 4 adult children and enjoys camping and kayaking with his wife while revelling in the spectacular scenery of Southwest BC.
